UPDATE - SNARED ELEPHANT

UPDATE - SNARED ELEPHANT -  ZAMBEZI RIVER/NYAMOUMBA - 28/8/17

Trust Details At Bottom Of Email

REMEMBER: When Driving or walking,

Animals always have the right of way !!!!

Further to our ALERTS X 3 !! sent out on 24/8/18,  see below update.

UPDATE

Drs Keith Dutlow and Lisa Marabini/AWARE Trust, left Kariba Friday.

Having had no sight of the Zebra we were searching for nor the Buffalo Parks Rangers were searching for !!, they headed on to Nyamoumba to again try and track down the snared young Ele bull.

Having no luck once again, they gave one last search on Sunday before they were going to head out.

MIRACLE !!! he strode out onto the road in front of them.

They darted and removed the thick cable snare that was deep in his leg.

Watch out for their update and footage when they return to the bright lights of Harare and have internet.

We will share their post on KAWFT facebook page and email update.

WELL DONE and THANK YOU to everyone once again for their assistance and continued effort to find this boy and for those that have assisted towards some of the costs for fuel and drugs.

Another precious animal saved and the agony removed.

If you can assist with costs for fuel and meds, it will go a long way in keeping the kitty topped up for continual emergency calls like this one.

Darting/drugs to tend to an Elephant costs $300.00 upwards just on the meds plus there is the cost of fuel traveling 6 1/2 hours one way to get to this boy.

FOUND !!! and treated THANK YOU everyone involved

ALERT NO 3 SNARED YOUNG ELEPHANT BULL - ZAMBEZI RIVER / NYAMOUMBA

Towards the end of July we had a call and these photos below from Nyamoumba Fishing and Birding Lodge regarding this poor fellow below.

We made coms with the Parks Area Manager Marangora and their patrol in the area was put on alert to hopefully get a visual on him.

We think it is the same boy the Parks Patrol reported a couple of months prior.

Arrangements were made with AWARE Trust Vets to travel through and collect a Snr. Ranger on the way through.

Unfortunately the Ele was only seen when he appeared outside the bedroom at 10pm !! This was an unsuccessful trip and the AWARE Vets Keith and Lisa returned home after 2 days.

Thank you to  - Parks Marangora for arranging all, along with the unexpected fly over they called in from the Hemmersbach organisation,

Nyamoumba Fishing and Birding Lodge – Moira & Sam & for accommodating Aware Vets Drs Keith Dutlow and Lisa Marabini.

See their story on this Facebook link   https://www.facebook.com/AWARETrustZimbabwe/posts/13520813415

We are still in continual coms with Nyamoumba Fishing and Birding Lodge and Keith and Lisa will be heading there again from Kariba in the hopes of finding this boy and giving him the urgent treatment he needs and deserves.

If you can assist with costs for fuel and meds, it will go a long way in keeping the kitty topped up for continual emergency calls like this one

Please advise on the below if you are at the river and have sighting or suspected sighting with the listed points at the top of the email.

All information possible will assist with the finding of the animal or herd and the sooner the more chance of removing the snare, giving any needed medical attention and saving another life.

THANK YOU ….
