WENDY MACKAY

Wendy sadly passed away on Monday 3 May at 03h30 from a massive stroke and died without pain or suffering, for which I am truly grateful. I know this is a great shock to you all as indeed it was to us, but Wendy would not approve of our mourning for too long. She will be laughing and dancing without pain in Glory!

There will be a private cremation on Friday, and we invite you to join us in celebratory service of her life on Saturday 7 May at 10h00 at the Hillside Church of Ascension (Bulawayo). She will undoubtedly be singing in heaven as we join together in song. We request that there be no flowers but should you wish to make a donation, please make it to The Way Clinic (at the Church of Ascension). Wendy's work there was a huge part of her selfless giving and to honour her this way would keep her memory alive for a long time to come. An alternative we be a donation to an Old Age Home of your choice as she had such an affinity for the Aged.

I would like to thank you all for the enormous outpouring of love and care, kindness and prayers - it has deeply strengthened us as a family.

All love and thanks

Hal, Anwen, Ged, Marc and family

Anti Hijack

From: Anti Hijack MOTORISTS caught using cellular phones

while driving now face stiff penalties following the launch of an

aggressive police exercise to reduce road accidents. New regulations

also empower officers to check the cellular phone of a driver involved in

an accident to determine whether or not the mishap was not a result of

operating the communication device. National police spokesperson Inspector

Tinaye Chigome last week said officers have been deployed countrywide to

arrest errant drivers.

He said his department was taking serious steps to curtail the

practice, which is among the major causes of road traffic accidents. +We

have to implement the law, as the police force's traffic monitoring

department,- he said.

Those arrested will be fined. They will be taken to court, as stipulated

by the country's laws, if they fail to pay the fine. +The use of mobile

phones by motorists while on the wheel is common in urban areas.

Therefore, our officers will man designated points to arrest individuals

caught breaking the law.-

Insp Chigome said an increasing number of accidents were linked to

cellular phone use, which often distracts the driver. +When an accident

occurs, units attending the scene will look at the concerned persons' call

records to determine if they were using cellular phones (at the time of

the accident),- he said. +It is now a trend that both minor and serious

accidents are a result of individuals using cellular phones.-

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne

Bvudzijena warned motorists against committing the offence. +It has always

been an offence, if you are found on the wrong side of the law you will be

arrested on the spot. This is an offence all over the world,- he said.

The Government introduced regulations criminalising the use of cellular

phones by motorists following an upsurge in road traffic accidents.

Although the measures have been in place for years, police cited manpower

shortage as an impediment to implementing them. Similar legislation is

also in place in other parts of the world such as America and Europe where

law enforcement agents use street cameras to detect offenders.

BE WARNED - THIS IS A BIG STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHICH

CAAZ Suspends Departure Tax

http://www.radiovop.com/

08/05/2011 14:21:00

HARARE, MAY 8, 2011 - The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) on
Saturday suspended the new airport departure tax, which will see domestic
travelers paying US$10 and international travelers coughing up an extra
US$30.

CAAZ said the tax, which was introduced under the Aviation Infrastructure
Development Fund (AIDEF) and was supposed to come into effect on May had
been suspended because of “logistical” challenges.
“Passengers who have been charged the levy in May 2011 should approach the
relevant airline, travel agent or airport authority for a refund,” said
David Chawota CAAZ chief executive officer.
“Airlines and travel agents who have collected AIDEF levies should not remit
the funds to CAAZ but refund the passengers.”

The authority said AIDEF would be used to upgrade the country’s airports
since it was not receiving enough money from government. But tourism players
criticised the move saying it would affect the sector which is still trying
to recover from the decade long political and economic crisis in the
country.

A few airlines still fly into Zimbabwe after many pulled out at the onset of
the political crisis.Passengers on transit, diplomats and children under the
age of two would be exempted from the tax when it is finally introduced.
