UPDATE ON SI 154 - SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
The compliance date of 1 June for SI 154 for Safety Equipment was originally carried in the media but has since been gazetted: SI 44 of 2011 amends the compliance date to 1 July 2011. (Copies of SI 44 available on request – email bigsky@zol.co.zw)
The criteria for the Safety Equipment is unchanged, as follows:
Fire extinguishers
From 1 July: Mandatory (1kg light vehicles, 1.5kg heavy duty vehicles). To be SAZ approved – look for the logo.
Availability: In stock, 1kg at $20-00, 1.5kg at $23-00. SAZ approved, made in South Africa, with mounting bracket. Fully serviceable.
Warning triangle
From 1 July: 2 triangles mandatory. Not required to be SAZ approved but must meet the criteria specified in SI154
Availability: In stock at $8-00 each.
Fluorescent safety jacket
From 1 July: Recommended, not mandatory (except for Mozambique travelers).
Availability: In stock at $8-00.
