Great news is that in the NAMA Awards for 2013, organised by
the National Arts Council and presented at a ceremony in Bulawayo on Saturday
night, a number of Reps people and productions were honoured, as have people
and shows associated with Reps during the past year.
PJ Smyth and Ryan Lawrence won the award for Best Director for their joint
directorship of The Woman In Black, a Repertory Players production that was
staged in Theatre Upstairs. 8 Count Crew, a dance group led by Michelle
Nativel, was named Zimbabwe’s Best Dance Group.
Other nominations that had been
received were Kyla Render (nominee for Best Actress for Don’t Dress For Dinner),
Mike Southall (nominee for Best Actor for The Woman In Black) and Chris
Charnley (nominee for Best Director for Don’t Dress For Dinner). In the Best
Director category there was a nomination for Leeroy Gono, who staged The Gods
You’ve Built in Theatre Upstairs late last year. Priviledge Mutendera, star of
Elinor Kennedy’s My Big Fat Shona Wedding, which also ran in Theatre Upstairs,
was nominated in the Best Actress category, too.
Well done to you all from the whole Reps family, for all nominees and winners!
Great work and it is superb to see you recognised nationally.
