USA Travel Advice

Tropical storm Harvey will continue to affect parts of the southern USA from Texas to Louisiana until 30 August 2017; high winds, heavy rain and severe flooding are still expected with the possibility of sporadic tornadoes throughout the region. You should track weather updates and follow the advice of local authorities, including any mandatory evacuations. We are aware of the cancellation of flights from major airports in affected areas; check with your airline before travelling into potentially dangerous areas.
In March 2017, the US government implemented additional security measures relating to carriage of electronic items on flights departing to the US from a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa region.
On 28 June 2017, the US Department of Homeland Security announced that it would also begin implementing separate enhanced security screeningprocedures for all commercial flights to the US.
If you need more information about how either of these measures may affect your particular flight, contact your airline or travel company.
You’ll need prior authorisation to enter the United States using a British passport, either through a visa, a Permanent Resident Card, or the Visa Waiver Programme. Restrictions apply depending on the type of passport you hold, your nationality, criminal history, and countries you may have recently visited. Visa and other entry conditions can change at short notice. It’s your responsibility to know and understand the rules of entry before you travel. See Entry Requirements
On 26 June 2017, a US Supreme Court ruling partly reintroduced temporary immigration measures for nationals of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. For the latest information check the websites of the US State Department and the Department of Homeland Security. British passport holders aren’t affected by these measures.
However, you must apply for a visa to enter the US if you’ve travelled to or been present in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen on or after 1 March 2011 (with some exceptions) or are also a national of Iran, Iraq, Sudan or Syria. See Entry Requirements
Around 3.8 million British nationals visit the United States every year. Most visits are trouble free. Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurancebefore you travel.
Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in the USA. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. You should monitor media reports and remain vigilant at all times. See Terrorism
UK health authorities have classified the United States as having a risk of Zika virus transmission in Florida, Texas (Cameron County only), Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. For more information and advice, visit the National Travel Health Network and Centre website: for travel to Florida and Texas (Cameron County) - for travel to Puerto Rico - for travel to US Virgin Islands.
You should be alert to the dangers of car and street crime. See Safety and Security
Snow storms during winter can cause delays and cancellations throughout airports in the USA. See Natural disasters
If you’re abroad and you need emergency help from the UK government, contact the nearest British embassy, consulate or high commission.

Perm res stickers

Perm res stickers. For those wondering what happens when one gets a new passport, the old one already having the new perm res sticker in it, this is what happened to me. I was told by Immigration at Linquenda House that one needed to travel with two passports - the old clipped one, with the perm res sticker in it, and the new one, as there was no “facility” for transferring the perm res sticker to the new passport, even if one paid. Showing old and new passports was all that was needed when returning to Zim. In June I got a new Brit passport while in UK (took five working days!). On return to Zim, I was told that the only way I could return was to pay the visitors entry fee and then go to Linquenda House. Only when it became clear that I was not paying a cent, was I allowed to enter but it was with a notice saying I had to report to Linquenda House to “regularise” the position within 30 days. I did this and the staff at Linquenda House called the airport staff and reprimanded them for not allowing me in. I now have, in my new passport, a stamp on top of which is written Re-Exam and on the bottom is written RR HQ Ref14106/17. I was once again told to travel with two passports – the old and new. I suspect that this matter is not dead!

National Registration at Harare Showgrounds:

National Registration at Harare Showgrounds: After our failed attempt in June at Market Square to get our green paper converted to a plastic card we went to the Registrar General Stand at the Showgrounds yesterday. It costs $5 entry to the Show. My son born after 1980 was there for five minutes and it was all done – he required his birth certificate and green paper. If one does not have a green paper to hand, they said a document e.g. driving licence, passport which shows the number can also do. I have a long birth certificate prior to 1980, which is now no longer valid! So mine took longer as they have to phone Makombe to verify details and then a new birth certificate is issued at a cost of $5 and the plastic ID is then issued then and there. They say they are open on Saturday at the showgrounds but if there are complications, it will be a challenge as Makombe is closed. All the staff manning the stand are helpful and friendly. TREES FOR BEWILDERED BEGINNERS, EXCITED ENTHUSIASTS AND PUZZLED PROFESSIONALS

Saturday 26th August at 1430 hours.

TREES FOR BEWILDERED BEGINNERS, EXCITED ENTHUSIASTS AND PUZZLED PROFESSIONALS

Karl Van Lauren has very kindly agreed to show us round his super collection of indigenous trees at his Borrowdale Park Veterinary Hospital.  This promises to be a most interesting outing and look forward to seeing you there.

Directions :  Use the stable entrance to the race course and as it is unmarked – if you are coming from Borrowdale get onto the highway and pass the main race course entrance.  Turn first left after the Dandara robots and just before the new white office block that has a service road in front of it enter through the gate saying “Private Property”.  If coming from town pass the Hellenic School robots and take the first road right immediately after the white office block. If you reach Dandara robots you have gone too far.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Have been chatting to Karl and he has over 81 species on this plot, so we are going to have one amazing time if we get round all of these!!
