National Registration at Harare
Showgrounds: After our failed attempt in June
at Market Square to get our green paper converted to a plastic card we went to
the Registrar General Stand at the Showgrounds yesterday. It costs $5 entry to
the Show. My son born after 1980 was there for five minutes and it was all done
– he required his birth certificate and green paper. If one does not have a
green paper to hand, they said a document e.g. driving licence, passport which
shows the number can also do. I have a long birth certificate prior to 1980,
which is now no longer valid! So mine took longer as they have to phone Makombe
to verify details and then a new birth certificate is issued at a cost of $5
and the plastic ID is then issued then and there. They say they are open on
Saturday at the showgrounds but if there are complications, it will be a
challenge as Makombe is closed. All the staff manning the stand are helpful and
friendly. Trish Henson 0772334991
