Animal Suffering

Good day,

I would like to report animal suffering taking place at No. 13 Meadow Bank, Mt Pleasant. Their two dogs are tied up everyday all day and hardly ever free in the yard. The animals are visible from the road as you can see through the gate. Lately their new puppy is given to howling continuously. I believe it is due to the distress from lack of freedom.

Please help. This is truly distressing.

Kind regards

Tendai

Murray Alexander

Flooding on the Kariba Road

I have just spoken to Lindy Griffiths who lives in Karoi. She had a houseful of unexpected guests last night waiting for the rains to abate. There were apparently 30 families bedding down at Rydings school for the night as well – great to hear about the community spirit that always comes to the fore in this part of the world when we have unforeseen circumstances like the floods on the Karoi Roads yesterday. – long may this characteristic continue.

The waters have, apparently, subsided enough for travellers to complete their journeys between Kariba and Harare. Lindy did say that there had been no rain in Karoi between 1pm yesterday and 9am this morning. The clouds were, however, down low so there will probably be more rain later today.

It would appear that those people leaving Kariba and Chirundu early enough this morning would be able to drive through. For those of you that are not in a rush there are a few cottages available for a very reasonable rate at Charara. There is, after all, no rush in Africa!

As with most flooding the roads are likely to be in a bad state of repair with new pot holes in unusual places. There will also be all sorts of flotsam, tree branches et al in the middle of the road. Remember too to give a helping hand if you see someone stuck on the side of the road.

There is likely to be a lot of chaotic drivers in a hurry to beat the floods so take care and drive slowly. Please send any interesting photos to share. Please don’t put them upside down like someone did yesterday!

Big Storm over Harare

A Satellite pic of the “Big Storm” centred just North of Harare. I have been watching it over the last couple of days,  getting slightly bigger and more intense. It is very slow moving so it is dropping a lot of rain.

It may not move out of the way till Monday pm or evening.

The storm, actually an intense low pressure system, ( a bit like a cyclone, typhoon etc) is moving very slowly eastwards. Because it is moving very slowly, it will drop an awful lot of water  in any particular area along its path. So, more flooding to come.

Mercia Hetherington

So sad - was thinking about you and your mother on that day - how my parents talked with you about ballet - a Christmas spent in the rain on our balcony - and  dishes you left me when you went to England - still used.
Never to be forgotten - always in our minds.  Odette and Adrian

Wdnesday notification

I have just had my car broken into at OG’s, handbag and phone taken.  I should not have left the stuff in the car, but I was only gone for a few seconds.  Anyway…. Please if anyone finds a leather handbag, simple no pockets on outside, and it closes with a magnetic clasp on the inside, it has a mens leather wallet in it, with cards and ID etc.

It also has some of those pin number things for online banking, 2 of them.

Another car was robbed at the same time – 2 laptops taken.
