ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE – PUBLIC RELATIONS – ROAD BLOCKS

The National complaints line is (04) 703631 (24 HOUR Service)

If you feel that while you are being questioned or searched at a roadblock, the details involved have harassed you, hinted for bribes, or been generally aggressive, you are advised to contact the ZRP Officers listed below.

The intention is for all ZRP details to have their rank, name and numbers on their uniforms but with current constraints this is not always possible. Each Police Officer has a force number which should be given out if requested.

It should be noted that there are NO SUCH THING AS SPOT FINES, without an OFFICIAL RECEIPT, which is Form Z69 (j) Admission of Guilt. Many Road Blocks carry Z69 (j) for the convenience of the public. Should it be inconvenient to pay immediately a “ticket” on Form 265 for payment at a Police Station within 7 days should be requested. Failure to report to a Police Station within 7 days once Form 265 is issued and will lead to prosecution.

  1. To whom it may concern,

I am currently on a trip in Zimbabwe from Namibia with a Namibian registered car. After doing all the preparations to get my car fit for Zimbabwean regulations, two silver reflectors in front, two red reflectors at the back, two safety triangles, a fire extinguisher, two reflective emergency jackets, first Aid kit, Namibian (NAM) country sticker, I still got fined by the police. This time I got fined for not having a continuous red reflective sticker on the back of my car. I mean how reflective should my car be, there are two reflectors in the light units, two standard ones in the back bumper, the two additional ones as stick on, next time we have to paint the back of the car in reflective red paint? Seems someone always finds something. But that not why I am writing. What I would like to know if there is a document where I can find all these rules so I can prepare my car better next time. Maybe this could also be published in one of the travel Magazines to make people aware of these “special” regulations.

    Best regards,
    HM

  3. What is the law on continuous red line on a private kombi and whats the offense to carry a flat spare wheel for repairs.I challenged the (lady) officer to show me the act and she went to her bmw and came back claiming that it went with the other car.I promised to find out the truth as i was going to pick my kid from school.I asked her why do we get charged for not carrying documents when the police do road blocks without an act on site

  5. Whats the law with regards to radio licences for the car? Should the police even be fining for these in the absence of ZRP to issue to the radio licence??? Shouldnt they always have a constitution from which to confirm the fee from? ZRP should be serving the people but 90% of the time they are doing otherwise.

  7. a Police officer in Mabelreign wanted to fine me for not having a 3rd number plate for US$20 saying that car could have been stolen regardless that the car has a valid vehicle licence is there a document or an Article which states this???

  8. I have been fined $20 for a regilation called C/S 10(2) -V.L.R Act (Tampering with third number plate). My windscreen cracked and I replaced with a new one and concurrently transfered all the licences including the third number plate to the new screen. I got a suprise today being stoped and being made to pay a fine by officer in Bulawayo for transfering the third number plate. First question : Where are these laws published . Is it not appropriate to give someone a verbal caution especially if the law is unknown to the public. Why can you not be issued with a ticket to pay at the nearest police station when you have the money.

  11. Fines

Has there been a change on the fines stated above because these speeding fines always start at $10? Recently I was stopped for speeding and l told the police officer that I had no money on my person so I asked for a 265 Form mentioned above, he said they are no longer issuing those, I just had to give them the cash.
