From a traveller - Mozambique roads

We have just returned from Mozambique and whilst driving I did a quick description of the road.

Herewith:

A DESCRIPTION OF THE ROAD FROM MUTARE, ZIMBABWE BORDER TO ARCHIPELAGO RESORT, IN VILANCULOS, MOZAMBIQUE.

1)       There is an amazing full tar road (dual carriageway in some parts) from the border to Inchope. At the Inchope intersection they are constructing what appears to be a flyover! Please make sure you take the MAPUTO turnoff.

2)      Inchope to Muxungwe is a good road.

3)      Muxungwe to Ripembe Bridge a few potholes appear.   Ripembe Bridge  is about half way between Muxungwe and Save

4)      After Ripembe Bridge the shoulders of the road start breaking down in places, however one can still do approx 100kph.

5)      12kms before the Save Bridge there is a seriously bad section of road. This is where most motorists drive on the shoulder of the road. You will only be able to drive at about 40kph

6)      After the Save Bridge very bad deep potholes for about 50kms where you will only be able to travel at about 30kph. Good idea to travel on side of the road.

7)      The last section of the road is patched and one can travel at about 80kph.

8)      People towing a boat might need to break their journey.

9)       After a long journey it is still an absolute delight to arrive at Archipelago Resort.
