At this
time of the year, there is nothing quite like being woken up early in the
morning by the lovely sounds created by the beautiful birdlife we have here in
Harare. The Heuglin’s Robin (White Browed Robin Chat!) is my favourite followed
closely by the whirring of the Crested Barbet and the Piet-My-Vrou.
This
morning I went out for a 9km run, at 5am, cross country along the bush
paths in Glen Lorne and the surrounding areas. The air was so fresh from the
strong winds we have had over the past couple of days blowing the fresh
smelling flowers off of the magnificent Purple Jacarandas. It is so quiet and
peaceful out there and you feel so good when you return home an hour or
so later. It is always best to have your running kit laid out next to your bed
the night before - just in case you are tempted to go back to sleep when you
first wake up.
Great to
see so many of the “Larger” ladies out walking up the hills in Greystone Park
today. Good on them! Cyclists out there too.
It is, of
course, that time of the year when we start preparing for the annual 20 miler
(32km Run) that HAC very ably organise on the first Sunday of December every
year (2nd Dec, 2012). This year the event is handsomely sponsored
once again by Mike Rooney of Europcar. One can either run the 32km or find a
mate and do 16km each. Why not put your name down today? You have just over 5
weeks left to train for it! Email the HAC secretary on paulettejarvis@gmail.com for more
details.
HAC run
from OGs Sports Club on the Chase in Groombridge every Friday after work
starting at 5.30pm. You can choose to do 5km or 8km and there are normally 30
or so runners so you will always find someone to run at your pace – guys and
girls. If you live in the Avondale area there are a bunch of slower, more
mature, runners that leave St Anne’s Hospital car park at about 6am every week
day.
Ballroom Dancing reminder. We are giving basic dancing lessons tonight at Dandaro from
6.30-8pm – why not come along with your partner and start learning how to dance
