The Vitz Blitz

This Vitz was at Newlands Shopping centre this morning at 10 am parked outside Standard Chartered bank. I wish I had got your mail earlier before I went down to the bank and I would have called you...!! It had four people in it. The two in the back looked like they were in police blues, the ones in the front were wearing yellow reflective vests (like the VID ones).

...........

I saw this vehicle(Pink Vitz) this morning at 10.30 on the Enterprise road (Newlands bypass) on the east side of the roundabout harassing a motorist. The Policeman was dressed in Highway Patrol type uniform and there was a plain clothed driver wearing a hat waiting in the car. Hope this helps.

.........

Many thanks for the info re Metalic Pink Vitz, it tried to stop me today at around 1:30pm at the intersection by the Dairibord Harare Dairy going towards Coventry road. There was one "Policeman" in the Blues uniform and reflective vest who tried to direct me to pull over, but the driver was in civilian clothing. I stopped at the intersection in a line of cars and the Vitz tried to push in front of me but I was in a Land Rover so he had a problem. Then the "cop" jumped out and tried to get into my passenger door but it was locked so he stood in front of the vehicle ordering me to pull over. The lights changed and the cars in front moved out of the way, so I revved my engine shouted get out of my way and drove straight at him. He jumped out of the way jumped back into the car and followed me a short distance to see if I would pull over which I did not. The car then disappeared.

Many thanks for your warning which I read this morning, you definitly saved my bacon.

Sent: Wednesday, May 09, 2012 3:24 PM Strange as it may sound, but this car, not an hour ago, was operating not more than 200m away from the

Borrowdale Police Station. They had pulled over a lady, but fortunately a friend of mine Glen, did stop and let her know that they weren’t actually policeman and I believe he took photos of them with his cell phone. Glen’s number is 0772 897 669.

We saw the Vitz yesterday morning on Northridge near la Menier, seems this is their beat.

I have put a copy of this letter in my families cars for quick reference.

I was stopped recently for talking on my cellphone by a roadside police stop and instantly thought I would be on the side of the road for hours or off to court considering all of the horror stories going around. I could not deny i was talking on my phone and when the policemen approached my car - he asked me for my driver’s license and told me that talking on the cellphone was illegal and that it causes accidents. Fair enough! However, He was friendly and polite and said that it would be a $20 fine and that i should not do it again. I got a legitimate ticket and all and was on my way in no time. I was so surprised and very gladly handed over my money as i know of somebody who has had to pay $600.

Just thought i would send you a good story - i was very lucky! What is the fine for talking on your phone as although we all know it is illegal and dangerous, i am sure it does not warrant arrest. Do you know?

..........

Saw someone in Borrowdale this morning who had the same treatment and the vehicle plates were AAT6725 . Was reported to Borrowdale police , So seems they change plates and vehicles – he said it was not a Pink Vitz . Apparently also of note is that the fine for talking on a cell is $20 – the issues of court etc are only applicable if there is a dispute

...........

Just to let you know that I had read your email shortly before seeing this vehicle, unfortunately I hadn't taken down you numbers(Sorry). I saw it at 12.10 doing U turn at the corner of Pringle and Harare Drive, It was heading towards Harare Drive from Arcturus Rd and when it got to Harare drive did u turn and headed back towards Arcturus road. It definitely had a person(male) in the front passenger seat in blue uniform with long reflective sleeves attached. The driver was also male in plain clothes.

.........

I was also accosted by the pink vita and when I pressed them for their force numbers left me alone but I did not report it. Interestingly on glenara going towards enterprise and just on the corner but out of sight of highlands police station I have noticed two policeman on a red Honda 125cc motorbike with no plates pulling people off last Saturday morning and early this morning again. one on both occasions keeps his helmet on at all times while talking to offenders. again I did not report it but would be interesting if you put it out on your forum what the response would be?

...........

I had the pleasure of meeting three of these lovely men in the pink vitz last week Wednesday at the intersection of Borrowdale Rd and Whitwell.

A friend of mine was pulled over by them a few days later. They were in a taxi travelling along Tiviotdale Road. As she was travelling by herself she did not stop despite their hooting, flashing of lights etc and she was eventually forced off the road. The three men and a lady jumped into her car and this could be considered attempted highjacking. She did report this to the police.

.............

I unfortunately was one of the victims of this scam and they threatened me with a fine of $3000 / losing my license for 3 months/ community service. They were rather intimidating and I honestly just panicked and wanted to get as far away from any police personal after the incident!

I had read previous articles that have been circulating mentioning that taking on a cell phone is in fact an offence with a hefty fine (one that I could most defiantly not afford) so my thinking was rather to pay a smaller bribe. They asked me for $400 which I told them I did not have and they settled for the $200 that I had to do business errands. They made me drive to the Ballantyne police station and I was escorted by one “police officer” while the other 3 followed me in the vitz. I didn’t even have a chance to make a phone call and it never crossed my mind that they would not be police as they showed me some kind of badge. My thinking was just to get this all over and done with as I was all on my own and extremely scared.

............

I had the same experience in Ballantyne Park by a silver vehicle (small one like a vitz) and cos I was so stressed I paid a $20 fine!!! they had no dockets... and wanted to take me to the police station the blurb was appropriate. then today coming from the same property across whitwell lane I saw a lady being questioned and by the time I did a u turn to try and get the number plate they had all gone.... another wide spread scam and though it is correct that we should not talk on the cell and in this case my hands free had run out of battery – this clearly is a money making scam with false officers!! or real! and they are targetting women on their own!

.............

There is a little silver car parked on the corner of Hindhead Ave and North Road in Chisipite EVERY day with 4 “police” in it. One big man in the drivers seat in plain clothes and the others in police uniforms. I was going to stop and take the registration number on my way back from the shops this morning but it had gone. ..
