100th year Mazoe Commemorative Run
In 1913, early July the ‘Salisbury Motor Club ‘
went out to Mazoe on its first organised run. Facts at the moment are limited,
but 10 motor bikes and 7 cars are listed as having taken off on the journey.
Did they overnight ? Did all machines make it back to town with no
breakdowns ? Does any body have a list of the bikes and cars that went on that
run ?
The VCCZ Committee would appreciate any factual
information over this occasion. Possibly an article in an old AA magazine ? Did
the SMC have its own magazine. Newspapers of the day ? Did the SMC get
absorbed into a bigger body ? The National Archives ? If you have
such information please contact any committee member or
Bob Rose : bobmargaretrose@gmail.com
with your information.
The VCCZ Committee is seriously considering a run on
the 7th July with 10 x bikes and 7 cars of the oldest makes
available to act as the vanguard for a start in the centre of Harare and
winding its way out of town with all and sundry with the remaining Classic
bikes and cars in tow, for a days outing to Mazoe. Braais, etc.
Any additional information would be much appreciated.
Talk to your neighbour, who knows !!! They may have
information.
