Hi All,
I know a few people that have been involved with Island Hospice over the years
– ISLAND is a great organisation that is
always in need of extra help. The one thing they tell me is that there is
always someone out there in worse circumstances that you are and
how rewarding it can be to help someone work through tough times. Why not contact them and offer your help – TODAY? – regards, Mike G

Island
Hospice Service (ISLAND) is a local non-governmental organisation (NGO),
registration number W.O. 27/79 and stationed in Harare. It was established in
1979 as the first Hospice in Africa. The initial objectives were to provide
direct home-based palliative care and comprehensive bereavement counselling
services to people with a life-threatening
illness including the caregivers and family members. However, ISLAND
soon expanded its activities beyond direct service care towards a
community-based programme. This is in line with the vision of the organisation
and the desire to spread the palliative care and bereavement concept to the
whole country especially to the most underprivileged groups.
ISLAND,
through its pool of professionals with a strong background of both practical
expertise and theoretical skills, is involved in capacity building, training,
and offers clinical placements and mentorship of various relevant groups and
the public. Below is the training calendar for the people who are
interested. The training period and cost has been shortened to meet
the demands of our clients. Below is the schedule for 2013;
