Miss Frazer taught me Domestic Science at Queen Elizabeth School from 1971 to 1975 – she was very strict, but considering the hard life she had, she never complained... and yes, she always loved feeding the birds and cats.  She always rode her bicycle to school – that is the only transport she ever had. After I left Queen Elizabeth, I saw her quite often feeding the pigeons in First Street and plenty times riding her bicycle down Second Street and Herbert Chitepo and I had to jump out the car and run along-side her bike to put a bit of money in her pocket.  She was always very grateful, but would not stop riding her bike to chat ... she was on her way to feed the pigeons!

Agree, please can an appeal go out to those remaining in Harare to visit an old age home.  I visit BS Leon and visit an elderly lady, there are many old age homes to choose from namely Fairways, Athol Evans and of course BS Leon just to name but three.  Some aged folk do not get any visitors at all and are so lonely.

Thanks for the instructive page “Children Learn what they Live”.  There is one point that parents should take note of:   Parents have just 15 years to create the values that they want their children to live up to.  After the age of 15 (or thereabouts) children will learn to live the values sometimes of their teachers but mostly of their peers, and there is not much that the parents will be able to do to change anything (other than an immensely powerful intervention probably with the help of others).  So use the first 15 years well.   As a role model, as a parent, as a loving friend.  Our war in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe taught us that when young children were abducted from schools at ages 10-15 they learned (from their teachers) very quickly and easily that not just bullying, but torturing and killing others was an acceptable value.  When these children returned they could never again relate to their parents values  Dave

please also note that on the roads from Chiredzi to Chivu/Ngundu and along the Eastern Border roads to Chipinge and Mutare, cattle are now being herded on the roads in an effort to slow down vehicles or stop them.  Several people have been pounced on and items stolen from all types of vehicles.

When I read this article it made me so sad.  She was my domestic science teacher at Queen Elizabeth Girls High and I remember on my first lesson with her when we intrcduced ourselves, looking down at me from the high chair she used to sit on and peering through her glasses said , 'Oh are you xxxxx's sister?"  My sister was naughty at school and she thought I was going to give her a hard time too!!!!'  I was petrified of her.  In hindsight she was an excellent teacher, uncompromising and pedantic.  I remeber the only brief piece of information she gave us ever of her family was the watch she used to wear (a man's watch) was from the love of her life, apparently he died.....this was information from the very brief sentence to she gave us........she lived for the birds and cats........and rode to school on that great big black bike in her Kaftan, hair pinned up.  She never changed from the day I was first at school to recently when I saw her cycling down the road on her normal route she was looking very frail, unlike the robust person she used to be..........but miraculously still with us!!!!!!!!

Ref. The vehicle the two guys that are purported to be driving around in a vehicle described as a silver Mercedes. Two days ago with exactly the same M.O. these two opened our gate (recently secured for bumping and lifting) two feet and gained access to the property. Our gardener who was on lunch was across the road with two friends and saw the vehicle drive up. He approached the vehicle and noticed that within seconds they had the gate partly open and one of them had gone into the property. My gardener immediately put the number of the car into his phone AJC4324 a Silver Toyota Mark 6  Legacy. The gardener was threatened by the 2nd guy in the car with a knife who demanded the phone be handed over and at the same time shouting for his friend to return. My gardener was then supported by his friends but the perpetrators got away. At the top of the road they stopped, removed the number plate and drove off. Avondale Police were changing shift and were useless. TONY

Hi Mike ,  Those 2 upstanding gentlemen in the Mercedes made an attempt to gain entry into our property on Monday afternoon at around 16.30hrs. They were making a bit of a racket at the gate as they were trying to unlock the padlock, well they did and the lock is nowhere to be seen and can only presume  It was bolt cutters or keys they were trying , when approached the one just waved and said “ sorry”.
We live in Tower Close off Helensvale Drive  .

I'm probably too late to speak on this subject but I do agree somewhat with the 'Ex non-practicing Christian' in that a child protection act should be adhered to.
However, this includes protecting the children who actually ARE the bullies/in the gangs. How can we name and shame people not fully matured? Have none of the people suggesting such been subject to the vicious rumour mongering that goes on and been made to relive poor decisions over and over?

I don't agree with what is happening and have been at Tin Roof when 3 fights broke out around my partner and I and we were forced to leave. But I too have a suggestion gleaned from the boarding school I attended in the UK: a bullying contract in which the bully/pupil causing trouble has 3 strikes (ANYONE can report them anonymously) and they're expelled. At each incident the parents are informed and the troublesome child visits the headmaster for a reprimand. They were also shunned by the rest of the student population (this culture needs to be born and nurtured).
