Festive Season Security
In the rush to plan holidays and a good social we
normally forget about basic security precautions. As we usually see an
upturn in crime over the next month here are a few basic tips for the Christmas
season.
-
Advise
us if you are going away/closing down, and ensure that you supply us with
details of your key holders to contact in emergency, and who is staying on the
property.
-
Ask
your neighbours to keep an eye on your home if you do not have a guard, and
give them our 24 hour numbers. If you need a guard then book as soon as you
can.
-
Ask
your neighbour or a friend to collect your post.
-
Make
sure your alarm system is working properly well before departure.
-
Make
sure you have good battery backup to prevent the alarm dying in a power cut.
(If your alarm activates when ZESA goes off and on this is a sign of
a POOR battery )
-
Remove valuables from sight if you can
(laptops, phones decoders etc.)
-
If
you have a house sitter make sure they know how to use the alarm properly.
-
Lock
up early if you are at home and activate the alarm.
-
Keep
gates closed and locked .Deny entry unless you are sure of identity and purpose
of visit
-
Make
use of alarm systems during the day if you are going out and double check that
you have locked up securely before leaving home
-
Never
leave keys on the inside of glass doors
-
Make
sure your external lights are working, preferably on a timer
-
Do
not leave tools like shovels and ladders outside- they can be used to gain
entry or as weapons!
-
Avoid
holding large sums of cash either at home or when travelling .With the current
banking problems I am sure there will be a temptation to draw more cash than
necessary.
-
Park
in well-lit and preferably guarded areas. Do not leave valuables on
display. Car park theft is on the rise so be especially aware when
parking, locking up, and on return from your shopping.
-
Test
your Cell Phone Panic and make sure you are registered with the Response
Centre before you go away. You can then call for assistance anywhere in the
country with cell coverage.
We have staff on call in each centre, and a duty
Director, 24 hours a day. If you run into difficulty, or just need advice,
please call. If you feel we are NOT giving you the service you need please do
not hesitate to call me on the number below.
Finally, thank you for your support and feedback
throughout the year, travel safely, and have a peaceful and happy Christmas and
New Year.
Thank you for using Safeguard

their safe in the shop. Investigations carried out indicated that the intruders
gained access into the shop through the roof, broke through the ceiling, and

On the 16th of November 2013, we received a report
from a school at 1230hrs to the effect that there was a break in and theft of
various items at a girls hostel. Incident was discovered at 0900hrs.
Investigations carried out indicated that students had left a window open. It
is believed that the intruders could have used the window to gain access into
the room to steal the items.
On the 20th of November 2013, a shop lifter entered a
clothing shop at around 2000hrs and stole cash. Realizing that he had been
spotted by a staff member he bolted out of the shop. Our guard who mans the

BULAWAYO
On 4th November 2013 in the CBD, intruders broke and
made three holes on the roof presumably in search of the radio link which they
failed to locate. We suspect the intruders abandoned they act due to fear
of being detected by activating the alarm. Nothing was stolen and no
activation received as the intruder did not gain entry.
On 4th November 2013 in Belmont, intruders broke a
wooden door from the workshop in to the main offices and vandalised the alarm
control panel and disconnected the radio link. The intruder used a
grinder to destroy the locking device of a safe in the cash office. A
large sum of money was stolen and offices ransacked.
On the 11th November 2013 in Belmont, intruders made a
hole on the roof and ceiling of the premises directly above the Radio Link
which they disabled and removed. They also managed to vandalize the
control panel, we believe the intruders after ensuring that the sensor in one
of the offices would not pick them up broke a window and gained entry located a
safe which they opened using grinders. Some cash was stolen; we
discovered that most offices had been thoroughly searched.
On the 12th November 2013 in the CBD, we received an
afterhours opening and dispatched our reaction team which arrived at premises
in 3 minutes. They found a trusted employee and keyholder on site who
advised them that he was waiting for a delivery. The client was called
and was shocked to hear that one of his trusted employees was awaiting
delivery. Reaction was then reassigned by the client to go and arrest the
employee but found him gone and a door near the sanitary lane open.
Several goods were stacked near the door indicating
that they were about to be stolen and taken out of the premises. The
client acknowledges that he had utmost faith in his employee who he housed near
the premises and entrusted him with the keys.
