We are aware of a press report stating it will now be
mandatory for all vehicles to carry vehicle litter bins and that a $15 fine
will be imposed if found not to have one.
The reporting was inaccurate insofar that EMA have
introduced a rule that all commuter vehicles, ie taxis, buses will have to
carry vehicle litter bags and can be fined in the absence of such bags.
It does not apply to private vehicles at this stage.
Vehicle litter bags were introduced by Environment
Africa as part of the Clean up Zimbabwe and Keep it Clean campaigns to address
the ongoing problem of people throwing litter out vehicle windows.
